Romain Gauthier, based in the Vallée de Joux, celebrates the 20th anniversary in 2025.
Romain Gauthier grew up in the Vallée de Joux, where he developed a deep passion for traditional watchmaking, honed his expertise in precision engineering, and cultivated a strong eye for design.
He began his career at a watch components manufacturer, working as a programmer and operator. During his time there, he played a key role in helping the company grow into a highly respected supplier. Inspired by this experience, he set his sights on creating his own timepieces and building a high-end watch brand from the ground up. As a first step toward this goal, he earned an MBA in 2002 by presenting a business plan for launching his own watch company.
Over the next three years, Gauthier focused on developing his first in-house movement. In 2005, he officially founded his brand, and in 2007, he debuted his first timepiece—the Prestige HM—at Baselworld. This was followed by a series of notable creations: the Prestige HMS (2010), the award-winning Logical One (2013), the Insight Micro-Rotor (2017), the Insight Micro-Rotor Skeleton (2020), and the C by Romain Gauthier (2021).
Each of Romain Gauthier’s creations combines refined mechanical movement inspired by traditional watchmaking with modern case and bracelet designs suited to contemporary tastes. Furthermore Romain creates exquisitely crafted objets d’art. All of these elements are powered by beautifully finished in-house movements.
Every timepiece is meticulously hand-finished by highly skilled artisans, giving it a unique presence unlike any other. From the production of the smallest gear to the full assembly and fine-tuning of the movement, every stage is carried out in-house. This also includes the hand-beveling and decoration of bridges and mainplates, as well as the enameling of the dials.
At the Tokyo Exhibition, a wide selection of timepieces were showcased, including legacy collections such as the now-discontinued Prestige HMS and Logical One, alongside current models. The exhibition also highlighted the brand’s renowned finishing techniques and introduced the new atelier opening this year.
To offer guests a taste of Switzerland while in Japan, selected Swiss wines and cheeses had been served at the venue.
We would like to say thank you to all our guests who have visited us during these 3 wonderful days.
